Sexual Harassment

There are two basic types of sexual harassment that are recognized under the law: hostile work environment sexual harassment and “quid pro quo” sexual harassment.

Hostile Work Environment Sexual Harassment occurs when your work environment becomes so hostile, abusive or offensive because of your sex that you are significantly uncomfortable at work. The offensive sex based words or conduct must be severe and/or pervasive and may take many forms such as sexual overtures or advances, offensive touching, inappropriate sexual innuendo, offensive sex related comments, hostility toward members of a particular sex, comments about private body parts or appearance, offensive language, or sexually oriented offensive jokes, e-mail, screen savers, posters, cartoons, or graffiti.

Quid Pro Quo Sexual Harassment occurs when an employee is offered some form or benefit or inducement such as a raise, a promotion, better hours, in exchange for some form of sexual attention or their employment is threatened unless the employee give sexual favors.

Have you been sexually harassed in the workplace? Have you been disciplined or fired in retaliation for not responding to sexual advances from your boss?

Do not let the harasser get away with it. If you do nothing, you may continue to face ongoing unwanted harassment. We can advise you how to proceed, and protect your rights.
